Announcements

The HEC will be sharing a Times Ink article this summer to showcase eight years of HEC accomplishments! We are excited for everyone to understand how our work has benefitted the Town and our community of citizens.

Updates

The Library Solar Ribbon Cutting on Green Up Day was the highlight of our 2025 so far! The event featured an informative demonstration of going “off-grid” by using the stored solar energy in the  battery system and a lively Q&A. The Huntington Energy Committee walked through the online dashboard for the solar panels to explain how the excess energy generated is shared with other buildings to make the Town money. Photos and video will be shared in a Times Ink article this summer.

This year the HEC has also been busy assisting the Town and Selectboard with replacing HVAC systems in Town buildings with efficiency in mind. A new heat pump hot water heater at the Town Firehouse was installed in June 2025. Also in June, a new heat pump system was installed at the Town Hall. Earlier in spring, a new propane boiler was installed at the Town Garage.

Other highlights of the first half of 2025 include:

  1. A member of the HEC attended the Municipal Hot Weather Planning Presentation presented by the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission on Thursday, May 29. Resources for hot weather preparedness are shared in the Links to Educational Resources section below.

  2. The Home Heat Transfer Workshop with HEC and VEEP held in April 2025 shared several resources which have been added to the Links to Educational Resources section below.

  3. In March 2025, the HEC met with the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission (CCRPC) and Efficiency Vermont to review results of the Energy audits of Town buildings funded by the Municipal Energy Resilience Program (MERP) of Town buildings to discuss how much the Town could get from Efficiency Vermont rebates for high-priority projects.

  4. Vermont Community Thermal Networks (VCTN) published their Thermal Energy Networks (TENs) Toolkit for Vermont property owners, developers, builders, town governments and other stakeholders in early 2025! This guide was in a collaborative effort of the VCTN and the Thermal Energy Network Team supported by Energy Action Network. A member of the HEC has served on the TEN Team since 2023.
