The Huntington River Scoping Study came about through a combination of public interest and Selectboard priorities. It is funded and administered entirely by Vermont Emergency Management (VEM) through FEMA’s Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) program, at no cost to the Town.
VEM selected Stone Environmental to conduct the study. In spring 2026, Stone contracted with Whiteout Solutions to fly the Huntington River corridor by helicopter and collect LiDAR data for use in modeling.
The study will model a range of conditions and scenarios along the river to evaluate the pros and cons of potential future actions, such as gravel bar extraction. As a condition of the funding, the Selectboard must also select one project to advance to 30% design, making it shovel-ready should state or federal construction funding become available.
The project is expected to be closed out by the end of 2026.
